Sweet and tangy Tamarillo Juice is a refreshing fruit juice that is full of vitamins and antioxidants and a lot of invigorating flavors.

Want to have something different but healthy to drink? Give this Tamarillo Juice a shot. This fruit is loaded with antioxidants and lacks nothing when it comes to flavor.

I will not deny that these little fruits look strange at first. Their flesh is orang like a persimmon, but the soft black seeds are nested in a deep red gel, making it seem as if they are bleeding when you cut them open. Although that sounds kind of gruesome, the taste of my first tamarillo surprised me even more than its appearance.

This juice is one of my absolute favorite juices since it is juicy, sweet, and tangy with bold and complex flavor with a mix between tomato, passion fruit, and kiwi fruit. Other than the delicious taste, tamarillo also provides a great amount of dietary fiber, protein, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants.

About Tamarillo

Tamarillo is a small oval-shaped fruit. It is closely related to other Solanaceae members of vegetables and fruits such as tomato, eggplant, tomatillo, groundcherry, and chili peppers.

Some of the other common names include tomato de arbol (Spanish), tomate de arvore (Brazil, Portuguese), tree tomato (English), and terong belanda (Indonesia). It is popular globally, especially in Peru, Colombia, New Zealand, Ecuador, Rwanda, Australia, and the United States.

Tamarillo is a shrub or small size tree reaching about 5-15 feet in height with hairy stems and branches. The fruit features an oval shape with smooth, shiny skin and can be of different colors depending upon the cultivar type. Their color varies from yellow and orange to red and almost purple. Red tamarillos are more sour, yellow and orange fruits are sweeter. Completely mature fruit features oval, about 4-10 cm long.

On the inside, the cut section appears similar to that of plum tomatoes. The flesh is juicy, deep, sweet yet tangy, flavorful, filled with many tiny, flat, disk-like edible seeds that are slightly larger than in tomatoes. The fruits are very high in vitamins and iron and low in calories.

Health Benefits

Tamarillo provides a great amount of dietary fiber, protein, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Tree-tomato is packed with vitamins A, C, E, and pro-vitamin A to ensure your skin stays healthy and radiant. The fruit is also very good for maintaining healthy eyesight since it is packed with vitamin A. In addition, it has a good source of B-complex vitamins such as niacin, thiamine, and riboflavin.

The fruit is low in calories and contains a high amount of fiber and high water content. That’s why eating tamarillo will keep you full for longer and great to aid weight loss. Consumed raw, the juice of tamarillo acts as a detoxifier. It also has some acidic properties which help to cut down fat.

People with diabetes will be pleased to learn that the chlorogenic acid found in tamarillos can help lower blood sugar levels in type-II diabetes. Tamarillo contains excellent antioxidants, which can reduce oxidative stress in organs such as the pancreas and the liver. Eating the pulp of tamarillo, or consuming its juice on a light stomach would ensure better results. Loaded with good sources of minerals and potassium, eating this fruit is also great for controlling heart rate as well as blood pressure.

Preparing Tamarillo

The skin is tough, bitter, and very sour. The fruit is eaten by scooping the flesh from a halved fruit. When lightly sugared and chilled, the flesh is used for a breakfast dish. Some people in New Zealand cut the fruit in half, scoop out the pulpy flesh, and spread it on toast at breakfast.

The easiest recipe for tomato juice

This recipe is suitable for those gardeners whose dacha does not yet have a juicer, and the meat grinder suddenly broke.

The Latin name Solanum lycopersicum, which means "wolf peach", was given to tomatoes by the Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus. He was convinced that the fruits of the plant were inedible and as poisonous as the berries of the potato or belladonna. Much later, it became known that the alkaloid solanine contained in nightshade fruits disappears as they ripen.

You will need : per liter jar - 1.3-1.4 kg of juicy tomatoes, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp citric acid.

Preparation of . Rinse and dry the tomatoes, cut into slices or cubes. Place in a saucepan and put on fire. Cook with stirring until vegetables soften. Remove mixture from heat and pass through a sieve. Put the squeezed juice back on the stove, bring to a boil and cook for about 10 minutes over low heat, removing the resulting foam. Add salt and citric acid, mix well and pour into a clean, sterilized jar. Place a small, thin towel in the bottom of a large saucepan and place jars of juice on it. Cover them with sterilized lids. Carefully pour hot water into a saucepan, place over medium heat and bring the water to a boil. Sterilize jars for 5 minutes. Then remove the pan from the heat, remove the jars, cover them with sterilized lids and roll up. Wrap the jars with a warm blanket and leave upside down until completely cool.

The level of water in the pot during sterilization must reach the so-called "belt" of the jars.

    Tomato juice from minced tomatoes

Continues the list of recipes for tomato juice without the use of a juicer combination of a meat grinder and a sieve. In this case, the tomatoes do not need pre-cooking.

You will need : per liter jar - 1.3-1.4 kg of juicy tomatoes, 2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp Sahara.

Cooking . Rinse and pat dry the tomatoes. Cut small and medium fruits in half, large ones in quarters. Pass through a meat grinder, and then through a sieve. Pour the juice into a saucepan, add spices, put on fire and cook for 10 minutes. Then pour the boiled juice into clean, sterilized jars. Place a thin towel in the bottom of a large saucepan and place jars of juice on it. Cover them with sterilized lids. Then remove the pan from the heat, remove the jars and cover them with sterilized lids. Roll up the juice. Wrap the jars with a warm blanket and leave upside down until completely cool.

Cans can be sterilized in another way. To do this, pour about 100 ml of room temperature water at the bottom of each of them and send it to a well-heated oven. Lower the temperature to 200°C and leave it there until the water from the jars has evaporated.

    Tomato juice without winter sterilization

Moving on to a more traditional cooking option. This time we prepare tomato juice using a juicer, but without sterilization.

You will need : per liter jar - 1. 3-1.4 kg of juicy tomatoes, 1 tbsp. sugar, 1 tsp coarse, but not iodized salt.

Wash and sterilize the jars in which the juice will be stored over steam for 7 minutes. Pour the finished juice into jars, cover with sterilized lids and roll up. Wrap the jars with a warm blanket and leave upside down until completely cool.

The brighter and more intense the color of the fruit, the more likely it is to taste good.

    Tomato juice with bell pepper

You will need : for a three-liter jar - 4 kg of tomatoes, 4 medium bell peppers, ½ hot pepper, 2. 5 tbsp. salt.

Preparation of . Rinse and dry tomatoes and peppers. Remove stems and seeds from peppers and rinse again. Run the vegetables through the juicer. Pour the resulting juice into a saucepan, put on fire, add salt to it, bring to a boil and cook for 10 minutes.

Due to the fact that the taste preferences of all housewives and their families are different, the amount of salt and other seasonings in the juice can be adjusted at your discretion.

Pour the juice into sterilized jars, cover with sterilized lids and roll up. Wrap the jars with a warm blanket and leave upside down until completely cool.

Vegetables must be whole and unspoiled. If they have cracks, be sure to cut them out.
