In this Paul Mitchell Shaping Cream Review I will take a look at what makes a good hair cream. We’ll also explore what makes the Paul Mitchell cream one of the best. The male grooming industry is booming nowadays. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a young man that doesn’t have at least one styling product in his bathroom.

Men’s hair creams come in numerous variations. Some have shine, some are matte, some have a scent and some have no scent at all. But all are usually the middle-of-the-road types of hair products. They don’t offer the weight or gloss of wax and pomade, and they don’t have that dry powerful hold clay and fibers do.

If you have thin, dry or brittle hair, creams are a nice way to create texture. They also add a faint natural shine to your hair at the same time, without tangling or damaging it with clay/fiber or weighing it down with wax and pomade.

Paul Mitchell Company Overview

Paul Mitchell is just one of those companies that has a cool factor attached to it. The late Paul Mitchell got together with his business partner, John Paul DeJoria, and they both created John Paul Mitchell Systems (JPMS) in 1980. The company is best known for its professional hair care products.

Aside from those, there are also beauty schools and other cosmetics- or beauty-related initiatives the two had begun. Furthermore, there are salons all over the country which carry Paul Mitchell products exclusively, although JPMS products are available in other salons too, which are non-exclusive. Paul Mitchell was actually the first major hair care company to publicly come out against animal testing, which is a big plus in my book.

What To Look For In A Shaping Cream

A good shaping cream should have strong hold.

  • Hold – While you don’t want a product that will be too stiff and crusty, a cream with very little hold is essentially useless to your hair.
  • Duration – These creams are designed for flexible styles that move, and won’t generally last all day, but some last longer than others. Still, you shouldn’t have to rework your hair within a few short hours, if you do, you need a longer lasting product.
  • Reshaping – Yet there is some variation on how easy it is to reshape your hair. Some products make this easier than others.
  • Scent – If you don’t like the smell of a styling cream, move along. There are way too many out there to settle.
  • Shine – The point of most creams is to not be apparent that you have product (or much product) in your hair by being too shiny. Your hair should just appear to have a healthy sheen.
  • Ease of Removal – You want a product that washes out quickly and leaves no residue behind.
  • Flakiness – Some hair products cause flakes (it can look similar to mild dandruff), but a good cream should not.
  • Greasiness – If you or your girlfriend cannot run fingers through your hair, a styling cream is no good. A little sticky or waxy feeling during application is normal, but it shouldn’t linger on your head or your hands.

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream

Shaping cream.

It took me a while to find one that I liked, but I finally did: The Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream. This cream can thicken and strengthen your strands, allowing your hair to stay however you shape it.

A popular product choice among men, particularly in America, it’s perfect for short hair that just needs a little styling. My own dark brown thin hair lies pretty flat, so I’ve used it to give my strands a little depth and volume.

In addition to its styling properties, this cream is a natural one. Eco-conscious people will appreciate that it is free of parabens and safe for regular use on colored or dyed hair. It’s also vegan-friendly, meaning it includes no animal products in its ingredients. This ensures that anyone and everyone can use it – and that no harm will be done to the environment or your health by using it.

With ingredients like Australian Tea Tree Oil, Extracts from the African shea butter, Eucalyptus, Awapuhi, Jojoba, Aloe, and Lavender, how can you go wrong? By including no chemicals and no dangerous additives, your scalp and skin are safe from damage or harm.

How does the tea tree oil within make a difference in this hair cream? Well, it is an essential oil that comes from Melaleuca alternifolia, or the tea tree. Tea tree oil has long been a natural aid in the prevention and treatment of maladies. However, in this hair styling cream, the tea tree oil provides entirely different benefits and strengths.

Rather than keeping illness at bay, the tea tree oil works to keep dandruff at bay and strengthen the efficiency and hold of the cream.

Back to our product, it is a high end shaping cream that goes on very easily without clumping.  It has a nice, natural scent from the tea tree oil.  As most shaping creams it seems, it has a medium hold and low shine.  It’s a bit waxy coming out of the puck- shaped container, but it goes on pretty easily.

Most shaping creams are for fine or light hair, but according to a few of my thicker haired friends, this one can actually work on denser hair as well. Paul Mitchell, who has many products I like (the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo being one of them), has really done it again with this light, easy to use styling cream. You need only a little bit to get the effect you want, and it washes out easily.

The biggest upside of this styling product is the lasting hold you’re going to get out of it. But, at the same time, you still get movable texture as a result of the flexible compounds found inside every drop of this cream.

Moveable Texture

Moveable texture.

The key words here are movable texture.  This tea tree shaping cream keeps your hair in shape while still allowing separation between the strands.  Mesh-like fibers in the mixture create pliable definition. This means that the cream is specially formulated to let you run your fingers through your hair while maintaining your shaped style (and not getting them greasy).

Your date or significant other will surely appreciate this, especially since the product does not cause any unsightly flakes to fall off your head.

When this hair cream dries, it has a matte finish that gives you a clean, dry look.  Unlike other creams that look greasy, crusty or slick, Tea Tree Shaping Cream doesn’t look like you added a bunch of product into your hair.  Because of the separation that is maintained when using the cream, your styled locks have a diffused shine.

In fact, using this product may make your hair look more natural than using nothing at all. On top of all the chemical benefits of the Tea Tree Shaping Cream, there are the expected benefits of the great smell and invigorating feel of tea tree botanicals!
Application:  You only need a little of the cream to get your hair to shape into the style you want. If you use the product while your hair is wet, the cream will leave a semi-shine on your hair after your hair dries. But if you use it while your hair is dry, it’ll just leave the matte finish. The cream doesn’t take much effort to rinse out. Just wash your hair normally at the end of the day and it will come out with no residue left over.

Just be careful. The first time I used it, I ended up washing it out almost immediately because I used too much product (about a large coin-sized dollop). It can be very heavy on fine hair, so go easy. A little bit goes a long way. Use just on your tips, don’t go down to the roots (this isn’t shampoo). Take a small amount out and put in hand and dab from there to fingertips.

Paul Mitchell Shaping Cream – Pro’s and Con’s

Tea tree shaping cream.

Pros:

    • Adds flexible texture and definition: When applied to your hair and shaped into place, the cream conditions each strand of hair. This gives it greater volume and stability, with a nice dry, coiffed look retaining flexibility for styling.
    • Natural Ingredients: The cream is made up of more natural ingredients than most shaping creams/gels. This increases the nutrients your hair and scalp receive. In turn, this can prevent dandruff and lead to a softer, healthier scalp.
    • Non-waxy and non-greasy: Many hair styling products leave behind a waxy, slick residue that coats the hair. This nifty cream doesn’t. Instead, this product can give your hair a healthy sheen without it looking or feeling greasy. It keeps your hair light and free of added weight. And it won’t leave a messy residue on your hands after application or anytime you run your fingers through it.
    • Concentrated: Sometimes, hair products are weak because they’re diluted and watered down to the point of being runny, ineffective messes. Tea tree shaping cream, however, is well concentrated. It is a thick, smooth cream that does nothing to dilute its ingredients, meaning it can give you the best hold and strength possible.
    • Doesn’t cause your hair to harden: A major problem with shaping creams is they’re stiff, crackly, and dry texture hours after application. Instead of leaving your strands feeling like they’ll break, tea tree shaping cream holds hair in place without leaving an unnatural stiffness behind. Your hair will keep its shape and position, but still feel soft to the touch.
    • Great Scent: The cream’s Tea Tree scent is fresh and pleasant. It isn’t overpowering or lingering like some other products.
    • Easy to reshape: If you choose to reshape while you have the product in your hair, it is very easy, all you need to do is wet your hands a drop.
    • Washes off Easily: Leaves behind no gross residue whatsoever.

Cons:

  • Duration is not the best: The shaping effect, though not bad at all, doesn’t last as long as some other shaping creams, and will last even less if you are walking outside on a windy day.
  • Relatively expensive: compared to other creams, at around $15,  this is on the higher scale.
  • Best suited for short haircuts: This cream is less effective with longer hairstyles, because it just does not have the strength to hold it together like some other fiber/clays.
  • Must use in small amounts- Too much can leave your hair feeling very heavy.

2020 Update: My Results With Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream

Due to the nature of my job as a product reviewer, I’m used to switching brands on a regular basis. However, there are a few that always seem to stick with me. Whether they’re personal favorites or if they simply left a good impression, there will always be those which stand out.

So, ever since using the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream, my opinions haven’t really changed much to be honest. In my opinion, it’s still a great product, with great results and reasonable pricing. I generally have at least 3 hair gels, waxes or creams in my bathroom regardless of the product I’m reviewing. And so far, the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream is a steadfast addition to my collection.

I don’t use it too often, so it tends to last quite long. However, even when I do run out, I always make sure to replace it with a fresh container’s worth. I’m really grateful that they haven’t changed the formula since the product’s origin. It’s largely why I fell in love with the product in the first place. So to give you my honest opinion with regards to my update on the product is that it’s still the same product I fell in love with when I first used it.

My hair holds well and doesn’t feel unnaturally stiff or uncomfortable. And the product seems to hold for long periods of time. One application of the gel in the morning will easily get me through a full day (without rain, swimming or showers of course) without fail. Paul Mitchell is a really well-trusted brand. So you can be sure that you’re getting your money’s worth when you invest in the Tea Tree Shaping Cream.

Conclusion

It works on thin, thick, curly, and straight hair that is cut short. If you can get over the price, this may just be your go-to styling cream. The benefits far outweigh the downsides in my opinion. This natural ingredient versatile styling cream gives you a strong hold without weighing your hair down or looking like it even has product in it.

Providing a nice matte finish and flexible hold that shifts as you shape your style, Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream offers movable texture and separation. This allows you time to manipulate your hair until you have achieved your desired look. I know I’ll be sticking with it, how about you?

You’d be hard pressed to find a guy’s bathroom without at least one hair care product in it. And I am talking about styling and shaping, not your run-of-the-mill shampoo or conditioner. To be clear, this isn’t just hipsters, groomers, and manscapers we’re talking about here. We’re talking about everyday guys, just being guys. Hair is an important feature for men and women alike. Always was, I guess. There is a reason why evolution has chosen to keep thick hair on the top of our heads, while the rest of our body became relatively hairless (unlike many other mammals).

There are hair styling creams and gels a-plenty, and finding the right one for you can be a difficult task. The one I am going to talk about here may not fit everyone, but it is a very popular brand of hair shaping cream. This is my review of Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Shaping Cream.

Paul Mitchell Company Background

Paul Mitchell – officially titled John Paul Mitchell Systems – was founded in 1980, by John Paul DeJoria and Paul Mitchell. Their company is a highly inspiring story of rags-to-riches, and it starts with the two of them meeting at a beauty show in Miami, in 1971. They became friends, and over the years formed the idea and basis of their company.

Nine years later, the company was established – with the help of a $750 loan – and the two began selling their products door-to-door. It was a very difficult beginning, but the duo did not give up. It is a lesson in tenacity, to say the least.

Today, DeJoria remains the company’s CEO, and Luke Jacobellis is the president. Paul Mitchell died of cancer in 1989, but DeJoria is still alive and kicking, continuously steering the company in smart directions. This company is known not only for its line of successful hair care products, but also for its beauty schools, which sprung up all over the country.

Paul Mitchell Products Overview

Paul Mitchell produces and distributes hair care for men, women, and even pets! Their long line of hair care items includes shampoos, conditioners, stylers, creams, texturizers, gels, pomades, clays, dryers, irons, brushes, combs, hair curlers, hair straighteners, and other tools for professionals and everyday users.

Overall, Paul Mitchell products are known for their effectiveness and usefulness. They deliver. If these products didn’t work, they wouldn’t sell. Simple. You can only get so far on hype or buzz, right? Like every other beauty/cosmetics product out there, what works amazingly well for one person may not work as well for another person.

Beauty and cosmetics items have always been a matter of personal preference and taste. It also has a lot to do with the user’s scalp type and hair type. You’ll have to try it out for yourself, and see whether or not it fits your wants and needs. Now, let’s get on with our review of PM’s Tea Tree Shaping Cream!

This cream is designed to strengthen your hair, and provide it with a thickness which allows it to retain the shape you give it. It is a kind of cream which complements short hair which just needs an extra touch. For this reason, it is a popular product with guys. If you want to give your hair a bit of depth, shine, and volume, without resorting to lengthy procedures or treatments, this kind of styling cream is right up your alley.

This product is vegan-friendly and eco-friendly, meaning that it contains natural ingredients. There are no parabens in this product, and it is safe to use on dyed or otherwise chemically-treated hair. The oil which is in this cream is the essential oil made from the Australian tea tree melalecua alternifolia (not to be confused with the tea plant, aka camellia seinensis,  whose leaves provide us with the drink we call tea).

Tea tree essential oil is known all over the world for its health benefits, its antiseptic and antifungal properties, healing abilities, and general usefulness in cleaning and disinfecting. It is an essential oil which has positively exploded onto the scene in recent years, though it has been known in mainstream Western culture since the turn of the 20th century. The tea tree oil in this cream helps the hair remain dandruff-free, and allows the product to take better hold of the hair.

Other ingredients in this cream include shea butter, eucalyptus, jojoba, aloe, and lavender. Your scalp and hair will not only thank you, but compose epic poems in your praise.

This product goes on nice and easy. It smells really good, doesn’t group or clump together, but it can look a little wax-like coming out of the tube. A lot of shaping creams are meant for light or thin hair, but this one works well with thick-haired guys, too. It is an easy-to-use shaping cream, and I like it very much. It holds the hair in place for a good while, which is crucial when you are talking about a styling product. You don’t invest the time to apply it, only to have to re-apply two hours later, right? On the other hand, this doesn’t mean that your hair is rock-solid and immovable.

Paul Mitchell have managed to create a cream which holds your look in place, but still has some move and flex to it. It is a great balance which I – and many others – am so very thankful for. You have to be able to appreciate this kind of attention to detail, even if you don’t use the product. This is part of what makes PM a much-loved company in the beauty and cosmetics industry.

This cream rinses out easily, too. It leaves no residue, and washes away with water. Go easy with application, until you learn exactly how much to use on your particular head of hair. It depends greatly on whether your hair is wet/dry/damp, on the amount of hair you have, its thickness (or lack thereof), and other factors. Start small, and don’t overuse. A little bit of cream on your fingertips is enough for a good beginning. Don’t use it on your roots, but rather on the tips of your hair. Tea tree oil may dry up your scalp if you apply it directly.

Okay, we discussed the good parts. But you gotta take the good with the bad. So, what are the cons of using this product?

Looking for a styling product that creates texture and leaves a matte finish? Tea Tree Shaping Cream will be your go-to #PMTIMGLE pic.twitter.com/9n8mdsMFnG

— Paul Mitchell UK (@PaulMitchellUK) January 5, 2017

Well, first of all – price. It can be somewhat expensive, compared to other styling creams. It is a high-end hair care product, and may not fit everyone’s budget.

Duration. This cream stays on for a good while, yes, but there are similar products which outlast it. If time is an essential criteria for you, this may not be the item for you.

Less effective for longer hair. If you are looking for a styler fit for longer hair, perhaps a fiber or clay product would be better for you. Those types of products have more strength, and manage to be more compatible for longer-haired people.

Is Paul Mitchell Cruelty-Free?

Yes, it is. In fact, Paul Mitchell became the one of the first cruelty-free companies to stop selling to China, due to China’s policy on animal-testing. To prevent animals from being harmed unnecessarily, PM pulled out of the Chinese market in 2012. Also, PM’s pet shampoos proudly state that they have been tested on humans. You gotta appreciate a company that puts the welfare of our fellow Earthlings before larger profit.

In regards to stopping Chinese sales, DeJoria stated: “Paul Mitchell has been and always will be cruelty-free.” Most of PM’s products are also vegan, meaning they do not contain animal products. Not all of them are, though, so if animal rights are an issue for you, remember to check that label before you purchase.

Conclusion

Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Shaping Cream works best on short hair – thin, curly, or straight. If price is not an issue for you, you will definitely be able to work with this cream. It generates a strong hold on the user’s hair, without being overbearing, too smelly, too greasy, or too heavy. It has a nice matte finish to it – this also depends on what state your hair is in when you put it on – and it provides a texture which is still movable and workable.

This styling cream is a product which has the potential to become a permanent addition to your hair care routine. It did with me, anyway. PM’s Tea Tree Shaping Cream can help you look good and feel good (I personally love the effects of tea tree oil on my general mood). Plus, the fact that it is a cruelty-free and vegan-friendly product only adds to its overall appeal.

We all know what a good hair day can do for our feelings and self-confidence. When we look good, it can help us feel good. Search your feelings, you know it to be true. When you walk out of your house with great-looking hair, sometimes it can affect your entire day. Give this cream a try, see what it can do for you, and watch how your days (and nights!) becomes that much better.

Body shaping: the most effective types of procedures and their features

There is no magic pill that will quickly and without harm to the body correct the figure. As there is no cream that is enough to apply to problem areas and wait until the extra centimeters go away. Body shaping products will not replace exercise and a healthy diet, but will speed up the process of losing weight.

Comprehensive approach

Before starting the procedures, it is worth evaluating what you have to work with. The effectiveness of corrective serums or creams depends on several factors:

  • From the initial data of : tissue volume, age, cellulite stage, dietary habits and lifestyle. A balanced diet and even minimal, but daily physical activity, combined with means for correction, will give a noticeable effect in two weeks.
  • From regularity . If after the first application you don’t see the result, you don’t have to regret the money thrown to the wind. After all, if you wash your hair once, the effect will not last for a week. A face cream will soften the skin as much as it is used - this is the essence of cosmetics. It is the same with means for body shaping: if you use it regularly, the result will be noticeable, and vice versa.
  • From consistency . Means for body shaping are divided into venotonics and lipolytics. The first ones cool, improve blood circulation and relieve swelling. The second burn fat. In losing weight, it plays a role in what period of the cycle to use one or another remedy.

Body shaping and cycle stage

Cosmetologist Tiina Orasmäe-Meder and journalist Yana Zubtsova have published a book called Beauty Myths. It explains how the stage of the cycle affects the body and figure of a woman. The authors recommend using lipolytics in the initial phase of the cycle, that is, in the first two weeks. This is the right period for fat burning creams and anti-cellulite body wraps. In this phase of the cycle, the hormone estrogen is at its peak. It energizes, encourages activity and uplifts the mood. It tones, burns fats, prevents cholesterol from being deposited on the walls of blood vessels. It's time to help him with active training and powerful fat burners.

In the second half of the cycle, estrogen subsides, the main hormone is progesterone. If the first famously consumes energy, burns fat and does not care about savings, then progesterone saves reserves. It prepares the body for a possible pregnancy, even it did not happen.

Progesterone increases the deposition of fat in the subcutaneous tissue and prevents the removal of fluid - one of the root causes of cellulite. Poor circulation of blood and lymph also leads to an ugly “orange peel”, and venotonics help to disperse the blood and stimulate the work of blood vessels. In other words, they will not remove existing cellulite, but will prevent a new one from forming. During this period, it is advisable not to burn fats, but to improve blood circulation, start lymphatic drainage and help remove excess fluid. By the time estrogen is active, that is, a new circle of the cycle, the blood will accelerate, the vessels will work more actively, and the burnt fat will be removed from the body faster.

It is better to start the process of losing weight with the help of corrective means from the third week of the cycle - this will greatly increase the effectiveness of the procedures.

Some products include components of both groups at once: they work on fat burning and remove excess fluid. They alternate venotonics and lipolytics, it is reasonable to use such in the first stage of the cycle.

Active components of lipolytics : caffeine, cocoa butter, coffee and green tea extracts, coenzyme Q10, kelp algae extracts, citrus fruits, cinnamon oil.

Active ingredients of venotonics : horse chestnut extract, ginkgo biloba extract, red grape extract, essential oils: cypress, coniferous, arnica extract, menthol, vitamin C.

Scrub to “lose weight beautifully”

From a sharp weight gain or loss, stretch marks appear, and it is more difficult to deal with them than with cellulite. A body scrub increases elasticity and helps you embrace change more easily. Removes dead skin particles and improves the absorption of the cream or mask. The components penetrate the layers of the skin more freely, and the care procedures become more effective. In addition, scrub massage accelerates the lymph and improves blood circulation.

Scrub can be easily and inexpensively made at home: take ground coffee cake, salt or sugar as granules, add oil or shower gel. The disadvantage is that the scrub particles are not perfectly round and can injure the skin. It is easy to infect micro-wounds and get inflammation.

The shape of the abrasive of the finished cosmetic scrub is perfectly round, and the dimensions are optimal. Granules are pleasant and safe to clean the skin without fear of damage. In addition, special compositions aimed at correcting the figure contain components that are already working “on cellulite” at the stage of skin preparation.

Fitness trainer and nutritionist from St. Petersburg Ekaterina Ignatova advises not to go in cycles in creams: “Cellulite is always an indicator of the existing stagnation in the body. You can use creams, but in combination. On their own, they don't work. In other words, it is necessary at all costs to ensure the flow of blood to problem areas.
